But while experimentation surged, real enterprise adoption remained limited, revealing a gap not in ambition or intelligence, but in readiness.

2025 was about capability

Over the past year, AI agents have demonstrated their potential to automate complex tasks, coordinate workflows, and act on high-level objectives. Powered by large language models and connected through APIs, agents showed they could reason, plan, and execute with minimal human intervention.

Yet adoption stalled short of production. Enterprises discovered that autonomy introduces a different class of challenges. Enterprise agents do not operate in isolation. They collaborate with other agents, invoke external models, and interact through APIs using standards such as MCP and agent-to-agent communication.

  • Consistent policy enforcement across agents and models
  • End-to-end traceability of actions and decisions
  • Governance that spans distributed, interconnected systems

This coordination becomes critical as enterprises scale from individual agents to agent networks.

From experimentation to enterprise scale

The defining difference between 2025 and 2026 is not technological maturity, but operational discipline. Enterprises that succeed will be those that invest in governance, authorization, and strong data foundations alongside agent capabilities.
